General Situation
It’s a classic summer chart at the moment, a blocking high pressure is killing all swell producing activity in the Atlantic, however during the week a low has been situated North West of Norway. This has created a northerly flow down the North Sea, and whilst it’s killed the summer weather, there has been a consistent little swell running which will continue into the weekend.
The Sure Thing
If you want waves then head to Yorkshire, simple as. It’s not going to be all time classic, and the swell is going to peak on Friday, but it will be in the chest to just overhead range and slowly dropping. It won’t be one of those classic mid winter charts when the epic reefs and points fire though, it’s more about the beaches like Cayton, Sandsend and Saltburn. It’s not going to be epic, but there will be some surf all weekend.
Plan B
Not really worth the drive from further south, but north east Scotland will also be getting that same swell as Yorkshire. It will be a little bit more ragged up here and probably not quite as big but there will be a wave. Beaches around Fraserburgh will have a junky onshore wave, where as there is a chance of a cleaner but smaller wave around Aberdeen. It won’t be quality but there will be just enough to get wet.
The Long Shot
Not actually that long of a shot, Norfolk will also be getting this swell, although it’s position further south will make it smaller. However it is likely to be a little cleaner than further north so waves around Cromer could well be worth a look. Get there early though, this swell is due to peak on Friday in the head high range before dropping, Sunday could be barely rideable.
