General Situation
Fair to say most coasts of the UK and Ireland have been firing this last week at some point, and the constant stream of storm activity in the North Atlantic is set to continue. The main features of this weekend are a weakening area of low pressure sliding north of Scotland over Saturday, creating a distinctly northerly airflow for most of the country, but it is backed up by a new low coming from the west, which will trow winds offshore for some parts on Sunday.
The Sure Thing
Scotland has been enjoying a great run of swell, and a few good windows for waves, and it's going to be a similar story this weekend. Saturday is going to see a good swell but mostly northerly winds, which will blow most places out. Sunday though is looking like a whole different story with winds switching to the south/south east and whilst the swell will be smaller most places will have a wave, possibly in the head to over head range.
Plan B
It's a similar story for North West Ireland, loads of swell about, but dodgy winds. They will be worse on the Saturday, but those secret coves that can handle a northerly will be well worth a look. Sunday morning is the best bet for a clean wave, with south and south easterly winds, however the approaching low will cause a switch to westerlies early afternoon at the latest so get in there whilst you can.
The Long Shot
With the south west of England looking like a blown out med this weekend, and Wales probably not having enough swell, the long shot is the east coast. Saturday looks pretty small, but there is a chance of a small but clean long range groundswell for Sunday, worth keeping an eye on but not guaranteed.
Outlook
It's winter, storm after storm, swell after swell, there will be waves on every coast int he next week.
